Forbidden Planet Robby the Robot Movie Poster Edition

Robby the Robot from the classic 1956 film, "Forbidden Planet I'm building this in conjunction with the Lost in Space B9 Robot because they will share similar electronics.

Parts #6, #7, #8 & #9 will be modified to accept one blue LED on the left and one blue LED on the right for Robby's Weapons Neutralizers.

• #2 - Gyro Stabilizer Base (will be stripped and painted gold)
• #3 x 3 - Gyro Stabilizers (will be replaced with photo etch)

• #5 x 4 - Weapons Neutralizer (will be replaced with photo etch)
• #34 - Analyzer Disk Alpha
• #35 - Analyzer Disk Beta

#32 is Robby's torso top half and #33 is Robby's torso bottom half.

This tree contains a mix of parts:

• #10 & #11 - Transducer Fins (will be replaced with photo etch)
• #18 - Voice Tube Support Panel (the center portion will be cut out to accommodate voice box lighting.)
• #13 - Head Faceplate (the saxophone valves might be replaced with photo etch)
• #36 - Robby Chest Plate

The saxophone valves on the Head Faceplate have photo etch replacements; however, after looking at them, I'm not sure, as of the writing, I'll be using the photo etch or just painting the valves. The small domes on each side of the saxophone valves will be replaced with something clear and Red LED's will be placed behind them.

Robby will not self stand, therefore I will be using the supplied base, #69, shown in this picture

This photo shows several test spoons for determining what color to paint Robby. The instructions and other online sources say he is Black; however, I think he's more of a dark metallic color. That's why I included some pictures of Robby along with the spoons. All paint is Vallejo Metal Color and is made to use straight from the jar and directly to the plastic with no primer. I shot the color both ways, with and without primer and I must say that the color is best on the spoons that were not primed.

The 'P' in front of the number designates that the spoon was primed with Vallejo 74.601 surface primer gray. The spoons with just a number were not primed and the paint was sprayed on the bare plastic.

• P1 & 1 - Vallejo Metal Color 77.712 Steel
• P2 & 2 - Vallejo Metal color 77.711 Magnesium
• P3 & 3 - Vallejo Metal Color 77.723 Exhaust Manifold
• P4 & 4 - Vallejo Metal Color 77.660 Gloss Black

To my eye I think I'll be going with 77.723 Exhaust Manifold. I want to look at other pictures and watch the movie again. If it's not Exhaust Manifold, it will be Gloss Black.
